5 Mins With a Member - Penny Beeston

With the recent opening of Gravity Coworking Offices in Brisbane , our community of entrepreneurs is expanding, creating exciting opportunities for inter-state collaboration.

Penny Beeston held the role of CEO of Autism Queensland as well as Director of the Australian Advisory Board for Autism Spectrum Disorders for over a decade.

In 2015 she took the leap to go out on her own, establishing  Strategic Options, a bespoke Consulting and Coaching business - here she discusses her journey so far.

Can you tell us a bit about your business Strategic Options?

Strategic Options is a Consulting and Coaching business. Coaching across non-exec Board Directors, C-Suite and senior managers. Consulting in the strategy, change and transition space.

What is your working background?

For the past 10 years I was the CEO of Autism Queensland. Prior to that I was in leadership roles in the Education and Disability Sectors. I have an Executive Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Education.

What made you decide that Gravity is the coworking space for you?

Going out on my own after leadership roles in larger NFP’s I was concerned about the impact of isolation on my practice. Gravity is fabulous because I am mixing with lots of other entrepreneurs who are on interesting journeys. The cross fertilization of ideas and networks is invigorating.

What is one of your greatest work achievements?

Leading a Not for Profit organisation for a decade, facilitating its growth and development was incredibly humbling and rewarding.

Tell us what you love most about what you do.?

I love the variety of opportunities I am presented with in my new role.

Favourite book?

Tricky…So many favourites. But an early favourite is “Leaning Towards Infinity” by Sue Wolfe.

Piece of advice for our other members and for startups and entrepreneurs out there?

Too early in my journey to give advice – I am open to taking advice however.
