6 Pieces of Advice for Startups

6 pieces of advice for Business Startup

We thought we would share a few of the best tips we’ve found from our friends at First Round. We know what it’s like to be starting from scratch and the tips below definitely helped us stay focused on the bigger picture.

1) You don’t have to be first to market to win.
Check out your competitors, find your niche, do it better than all of them.

2) Fight like you’re right. Listen like you’re wrong.
Stand by your ideas, learn when to take advice. Be confident but humble.

3) Get rid of luck.
You make your own luck, you pave your own way. Know that the risks you take are calculated and enable the outcomes.

4) You need a mission and vision.
A vision is the dream and the mission is the objectives. One can’t exist without the other.

5) Make decisions fast and early.
Fix problems early and don’t let decisions drag out. Having the confidence to make a call means you can get on with ensuring point 4 is always at the forefront of your mind.

6) You are your message and your message is everything.
Find your story and stick to it. Ask yourself
Who are you?
Why you?
What problem do you solve?
Why are you different?
Once you have your answers, this will become your narrative. Keep the message consistent and you won’t need an agency to figure this out for you.

And for a bonus 7th piece of advice – find a workspace that feels comfortable and has great energy, and enables you to aspire to greatness.
Like the famous saying goes, ‘Dress for the position you want, not for the position you have’.

Keep your eyes out for more juicy advice in the coming weeks.
