FIVE YEARS AGO GRAVITITE ALICIA LEFT HER SIX-FIGURE INCOME JOB TO TAKE THE RISK OF WORKING AS A CONTRACTOR.
ORIGINALLY WORKING BOTH FROM HOME AND RUNNING IN-HOUSE CORPORATE WORKSHOPS, ALICIA RECENTLY DECIDED TO TRY COWORKING BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT.
HERE, THE FOUNDER OF ICAT EXPLAINS WHY MOVING TO GRAVITY HAS BEEN THE BEST DECISION SHE HAS MADE AS PART OF HER BUSINESS EXPANSION PLAN.
What made you decide that Gravity is the coworking space for you?
I’ll be honest – I looked at a fair few places. From the moment I walked in to Gravity I could sense the entrepreneurial vibe. It has a welcoming feel, all the right facilities, a good age mix, excellent location and so far everyone has been very nice.
Can you give us 3 benefits as to how Gravity is helping you with your business?
1. Structure! I have a proper day planned now as it feels as though I am actually going to work.
2. A great environment with an opportunity to meet other small business owners.
3. Good location with opportunity to meet with clients in a casual yet professional environment.
What is one of your greatest work achievements?
Starting a successful business with absolutely no outlay has to be my greatest achievement. And working with some terrific large government clients is also a pretty good achievement I think…
What is your working background? (What did you study, where have you worked etc. Need only be a quick synopsis)
My background was predominantly in IT and Television Production, working in administrative and HR capacities. I really wanted to work as a dedicated Trainer / Presenter and because I couldn’t find the right job, 5 and a half years ago I decided to create it!
Tell us what you love most about what you do.
I love helping people. I love that people can come along to my workshops and leave with great new ideas and that I have played a part in facilitating that process. And the best part is that these Trainers are going into their own training environments and doing great things for their own learners. Knowing that the impact I have goes beyond the one person that attended my workshop and extends to the hundreds of people they will train is in itself an amazing feeling.
Name your business and give us a brief description of what it’s about.
Institute of Corporate and Accredited Training currently has two main offerings:
1. PD workshops/courses that make Trainers and Presenters better at what they do using innovative, interesting and dynamic methods that promote and encourage audience involvement and engagement;
2. Training materials, coursework, games and other resources including a publishing arm that helps aspiring authors get their books self-published (it’s so much easier than you think!).
And coming soon – a Member Directory for training professionals…
Um… chocolate. And Mexican food.
Anything by Paulo Coehlo, Jostein Gaarder, Anthony Robbins and Jim Rohn is on the list.
Piece of advice for our other members and for start-ups and entrepreneurs out there?
What truly matters is how much you believe in yourself. If you get up every morning knowing you are doing the one true thing that makes you happy, then you are doing the right thing.
